Wine & Coke

4.0 out of 5.0

This sounds like the worst idea ever - mixing Coke with wine? We aren't crazy, we promise...

We thought the idea sounded terrible too until we tried it. The best way we can describe it...liquored up cherry Coke! So delicious and perfect for a hot day and it has an actual name so you can order one at the bar! A kalimotxo (pronounced calimocho) is a Spanish drink that uses leftover red wine and Coke. A great alternative to making your own sangria if you are short on time or need a little caffeine pick me up from the Coke!

  • 4 oz Red Wine
  • 4 oz Coke
  • 1/2 c Frozen Cherries

Drop frozen cherries into a glass and top with red wine and Coke.

Substitutions and Tips

  • Use ice instead of frozen cherries but it will dilute your drink and nobody likes a watered-down drink!
  • Use a Tempranillo from Spain such as Castillo Clavijo as the red wine.
  • Pair this recipe with tapas and some manchego, a Spanish cheese.
Yield: 1 serving
