White Winter Winery - A North Woods Adventure

You hear a lot about wines...Merlot, Cabernet, Riesling...but what you don't hear of as much is Honey Wine or Mead. Although processed similar to wine, fermenting honey and water with yeast makes Mead. If you are looking for a sweeter tasting wine, Mead is the way to go. It's also a nice way to break the norm, step out of your comfort zone, and enjoy something not quite as commonly found at every liquor store.

At White Winter Winery in Iron River, WI, Mead is their main offering. The winery offers many varieties of Mead including the Holiday Harbor Mead, which does not need to be saved for the holidays. I plan on enjoying it well before Christmas. With spiced notes and the added grape spirits, this is sure to warm you up during winter. Another feature favorite was the Mischief Mead, which was a Cranberry Mead that would pair excellent with any turkey recipe. Come on...who doesn't want the feel of Thanksgiving more than just once a year?

So folks, put on your snow pants and travel north to give this winery a whirl. If you are not a fan of the snow, wait until this summer to enjoy the fantastic northern scenery and try one of the many delicious bottles they have to offer.

Check them out online to find a liquor store in Minnesota or Wisconsin that carries their products if you can't head out to the winery.
