Today is International Carmenere Day. Carmenere is a red grape born in the Bordeaux region of France but currently the signature grape of Chile.

Color: Deep red to dark purple

Region: Chile (Current Majority), Bordeaux (Originally)

Flavor & Smell: Berry fruits, spice, tobacco, and chocolate

Food Pairings: Red meats and meat based sauces, smoked or grilled meats, hard cheese (can be aged), and anything spicy

We suggest trying Root 1 Carmenere as it is affordable and full of flavor. It is a beautiful deep red, almost purple wine, with very strong fruit flavors such as plums and blackberries.

Cheers!
